Cardura XL is an oral medication used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, allowing urine to flow more freely and reducing the symptoms of BPH such as weak urine stream, difficulty starting and stopping the flow of urine, dribbling after urination, and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. It also helps to reduce the need to urinate frequently and urgently. Cardura XL is an extended-release formulation of the active ingredient doxazosin, which is an alpha-blocker. It is taken once daily and has been proven to be effective in treating BPH symptoms for up to 24 hours. Cardura XL can take up to 6 weeks to become fully effective, and your doctor may need to adjust your dose during this time.

Common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, and an irregular or slow heartbeat.
