Zoladex is a hormone-based medication used to treat certain types of prostate and breast cancer, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids. It works by reducing hormones that stimulate tumor growth.
Zoladex is a prescription medication used to treat symptoms of endometriosis, fibroids, and prostate cancer. It works by releasing a synthetic hormone, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist, into your body. This hormone helps reduce the production of estrogen and other hormones that can cause endometriosis and fibroids or stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Zoladex also helps reduce the size of fibroids and endometrial implants by thinning the lining of the uterus. It can also be used in combination with other treatments, such as surgery or radiation, to help reduce the size of a prostate tumor. Zoladex is given as an injection every one, three, or four months, depending on the condition being treated.
Common side effects of Zoladex include hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, headache, and nausea.
