Zytiga is a medication used to treat metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer in men. It works by blocking the production of certain hormones to slow the growth and spread of cancer cells.
Zytiga (abiraterone acetate) is a prescription medication used to treat men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), a form of prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and can no longer be treated with traditional hormone therapies. Zytiga works by blocking an enzyme called CYP17A1, which is involved in the production of testosterone, which can help slow the growth and spread of cancer. Zytiga is usually prescribed in combination with prednisone, a steroid medicine used to reduce inflammation and swelling caused by the cancer. Common side effects associated with Zytiga include fatigue, joint pain, hot flashes, and nausea. In some cases, more serious side effects such as high blood pressure, liver problems, and increased risk of stroke may occur. Zytiga is taken orally once a day in pill form and should be taken at the same time each day.
