Yervoy (ipilimumab) is an immunotherapy used to treat certain types of advanced melanoma (skin cancer) that has spread or cannot be removed by surgery.
Yervoy (ipilimumab) is an immunotherapy medication used to treat certain types of cancer. It works by targeting and disabling proteins called CTLA-4, which weaken the body’s immune system response to cancer cells. This helps the body’s natural defenses identify and attack cancer cells more effectively. Yervoy can be used to treat advanced melanoma, a type of skin cancer, as well as other types of cancer, such as kidney cancer, colorectal cancer, and lymphoma. Yervoy is typically given intravenously (IV) as an injection or infusion. It may be used alone or in combination with other cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiation.
Side effects of Yervoy include fatigue, rash, diarrhea, and nausea. It can also increase the risk of serious, life-threatening infections. Talk to your doctor to find out if Yervoy is right for you.
