Remicade is a biologic medicine used to treat many types of inflammatory conditions, including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. It is an antibody, made up of proteins, that works by blocking the action of a protein called tumor necrosis factor (TNF). This protein is responsible for causing inflammation in the body, and blocking it can help to reduce inflammation and improve symptoms of these conditions. Remicade is administered intravenously, usually every four to eight weeks, after a screening process to make sure the patient is healthy enough to receive the medicine. Treatment with Remicade can help to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, and even put some conditions into remission.
